Home Depot Foundation Commits Additional $50 Million for Veterans' Housing

The Home Depot Foundation has pledged an additional $50 million over the next three years in support of veterans' housing initiatives as part of its second annual Celebration of Service campaign.

In addition to the commitment, the foundation announced that it had surpassed the three-year, $30 million pledge it made in 2011 to help secure housing for veterans. In partnership with more than a thousand nonprofits, the foundation has provided funding and volunteer resources over the last eighteen months to repair and refurbish homes as well as service facilities benefiting more than five thousand veterans and their families.

The foundation's latest announcement kicked off the 2012 Celebration of Service campaign, during which thousands of Home Depot employee volunteers nationwide will look to complete, by Veterans Day, more than three hundred service projects to benefit veterans and their families.

"With more than one million service members transitioning out of the military over the next two years and with almost half of all veterans over the age of fifty-five, we know that many veterans are struggling with housing challenges and that this will continue for the foreseeable future," said Home Depot Foundation president Kelly Caffarelli. "We pledge to recognize and celebrate the service of all veterans by using our financial and volunteer resources to ensure these brave men and women have safe, comfortable homes."
