Coca-Cola Foundation Awards $10.5 Million in Second-Quarter Grants

The Coca-Cola Foundation has announced grants totaling $10.5 million to sixty-eight nonprofit organizations in forty-one countries.

Second-quarter grants were awarded to organizations around the globe working to promote active, healthy living ($3.2 million); water stewardship ($2.9 million); community recycling ($780,000); education ($630,000); and other local priorities ($3 million), including youth development, community improvement, and economic stability. The foundation anticipates that the supported projects will enable 1.8 million students to gain access to scholarships, 1.2 million youth and adults to participate in fitness and nutrition programs, 1.1 million people to engage in recycling awareness and education programs, and 300,000 people to benefit from improved sanitation and water systems.

Grant recipients include the D.C.-based United Service Organizations, which was awarded $1.25 million to provide programs that benefit a hundred thousand military personnel and their families and to construct rehabilitation centers at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and Fort Belvoir Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia; the Excellence in Paediatrics Institute, which received $670,000 to conduct a study about active healthy living that will benefit a hundred and fifty thousand children and spark the creation of online training courses for more than five thousand pediatricians; the Foundation for Rural Recovery and Development in New Delhi, India, which was awarded $450,768 for watershed development around the Sambhar Salt Lake; and Keep New Zealand Beautiful, which received $150,000 to improve community recycling in high-impact areas.

"These grants represent our ongoing investment in the sustainability and the well-being of thousands of communities around the world," said Coca-Cola Foundation chairperson Ingrid Saunders Jones. "Our investment is designed to have real impact, by helping local communities with innovative ways to meet global challenges."
