Community Foundation Update (9/01/12) California

The Fresno Regional Foundation has announced that it will award up to $75,000 to organizations working to restore the San Joaquin and Kings rivers. The foundation will fund activities related to the acquisition of land, restoration of native fish (particularly salmon) populations and increased water flows, improved public access to the valley portions of the rivers, and education and awareness about the importance of the rivers.

Colorado

The Estes Valley Community Fund, an affiliate of the Fort Collins-based Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, has announced a $600,000 Legacy Campaign to help increase funding for local nonprofit agencies, the Estes Park Trail Gazette reports. Two Estes Valley donors have provided a $300,000 matching grant. If the challenge is met, the endowed fund will be able to award more than $30,000 annually to local nonprofits.

Georgia

The Neighborhood Fund, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, has awarded $14,000 to SafetySmart Lilburn, Inc., the Lilburn-Mountain Park Patch reports. Approximately $5,000 of the grant will be used to help develop eight new neighborhood and business watches in the 30047 ZIP code. The remaining funds will support community coaching provided by CFGA affiliates.

Indiana

The Batesville-based Ripley County Community Foundation has announced its third cycle of small project grants for 2012, including $500 to the Circle of Love ministry, $300 to the Friends of Batesville Library, $415 to the Southeast Indiana Health Center, and $250 to Special Olympics Indiana. In addition, the foundation is accepting requests for the next cycle of small project grants, which must be received by 4:00 p.m., October 12.

Louisiana

The Lafayette-based Community Foundation of Acadiana and the Greater New Orleans Foundation have announced that they have established separate Hurricane Isaac relief funds to provide support for emergency and longer-term relief, restoration, and rebuilding efforts necessitated by the storm.

Michigan

The Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation is accepting applications from area high school students interested in serving on its youth council, the Ann Arbor Journal reports. The foundation aims to seat a total of twenty-five youths on the council, which will award $70,000 in grants to youth programs and services in Washtenaw County. The deadline to apply is September 14.
