Hogg Foundation for Mental Health Awards $2 Million for Youth Services in Houston

Hogg Foundation for Mental Health Awards $2 Million for Youth Services in Houston

The Austin-based Hogg Foundation for Mental Health has announced eight grants totaling more than $2 million in support of programs for children, youth, and families in Houston and Harris County.

An expansion of the 2009 Ima Hogg Children's Mental Health Grants program, the awards will provide fourth-year funding to the program's original grantees to enhance their services, build capacity, and focus on sustainability efforts. The original grants were awarded based on recommendations from a two-year community-wide strategic planning process conducted by the City of Houston and the Harris County Joint City/County Commission on Children.

The grants include $862,580 to the Collaborative for Children to increase its parenting services and supports; $490,597 to Harris County Protective Services for Children and Adults, which will use the funds to provide a continuum of mental health services and supports to students and their families at five schools; $159,294 to the Asian American Family Services to improve its program services and supports; and $136,732 to the DePelchin Children's Center to provide culturally competent mental health screening and trauma-focused treatment for Latino children and families.

"With the additional year of funding, we are better positioning these organizations to serve their communities for years to come," said Hogg Foundation executive director Octavio N. Martinez, Jr. "Miss Ima Hogg's vision, caring, and concern for children and families lives on in the community she loved through her generous gift."
