Indiana University Receives $1 Million From Osher Foundation
Indiana University has announced two grants totaling more than $1 million from the Bernard Osher Foundation to endow the Osher Reentry Scholarship program at IU Bloomington.
The grant will enable the university to continue providing scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 to adult students who have experienced an interruption of at least five years in their formal education and intend to be part of the workforce after completion of their degree. The endowed program will be managed by the IU Foundation and administered by the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education.
Nearly seventy students have received Osher scholarships since the program was launched in 2009, when the foundation awarded its first grant to IU. The endowment will support a minimum of twenty scholarships a year for students who are balancing work, family, and community service obligations while pursuing their degree.
"Indiana University Bloomington has long been committed to delivering quality educational programming to adult learners," said IU Bloomington provost and executive vice president Lauren Robel. "The Osher Reentry Scholarship endowment ensures that future generations of adult students at IU will have the financial support necessary to improve their lives through higher education. The Oshers are deeply committed to helping nontraditional students, and we are honored to benefit from their generosity."
