Kellogg Foundation Awards $3 Million to Santa Fe Community Foundation

The Santa Fe Community Foundation has announced a three-year, $3.11 million grant from the Michigan-based W.K. Kellogg Foundation to help address healthcare disparities in New Mexico, the New Mexican reports.

The grant will enable SFCF to study up to five low-income communities across the state to determine the specific healthcare needs of their constituent population groups. Once those needs are identified, health councils comprising community leaders and parents will use the research to work in partnership with Place Matters to establish priorities for their respective communities and educate others about those priorities as well as solutions to addressing them.

"Ultimately, the goal is to explore creating what we call a Health Equity Institute at the end of the three years," said SFCF president and CEO Brian Byrnes. "What are now diverse efforts around the state, we hope to consolidate into a coordinated strategy and to create a sustainable piece of infrastructure here in New Mexico."
