People in the News (8/12/12): Appointments and Promotions
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced the appointment of ORIN LEVINE as director of vaccine delivery within its Global Development Program, effective October 1. Dr. Levine, professor of international health and executive director of the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, earlier led the GAVI Alliance's pneumococcal vaccine program, PneumoADIP. More recently, he served as a steering committee member of the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration, as co-chair of the DoVC Global Access Working Group, and as president of the American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene's committee on global health.
The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation has announced the appointment of NANCY J. KOCH as general counsel and secretary. For the past five years, Koch has worked in legal and advocacy consulting for a variety of entities including, most recently, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Earlier, she held a variety of legal positions with Chiron Corporation and Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, Inc., and was a partner in the Farella, Braun & Martel law firm in San Francisco.
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation has announced the retirement of HAROLD BRADLEY, who has served as the foundation's investment officer since 2007. Bradley, who has worked in the financial services arena for thirty-two years, developed acclaimed record-keeping systems and risk analytics for the foundation and helped produce two reports about investing strategy risk in America.
The Nature Conservancy has announced the appointment of STUART F. GRUSKIN as chief conservation and external affairs officer in its Albany (NY) office, representing the organization’s interests at the state level. Gruskin, currently a consultant focusing on environmental, energy, and economic development issues, previously served as executive deputy commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Before entering government service, Gruskin had a twenty-five-year legal and business career in New York City and also was a principal of a financing services company in the real estate development industry.
The Mobile Giving Foundation has announced the appointment of JOHN H. GRAHAM IV as chair of its board of directors, effective immediately. In addition, the foundation appointed BRIAN ASHBY to the board of directors and named FABRICE SERGENT as chair of its advisory board. Graham, president and CEO of ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership, recently served as board chair of the BBB Wise Giving Alliance and earlier served as CEO of the American Diabetes Association. Ashby is associate general counsel at Verizon Wireless and has served more than twenty years in the technology industry. Sergent is founding CEO of Cellfish and earlier served as chair and CEO of Club-Internet, one of the first French ISPs, and CEO of Lagardere Active Broadband, a France-based media publisher.
In other news, the Jessie Ball duPont Fund has announced the appointment of MARTY LANAHAN as a trustee, effective January 1. Lanahan, currently West Florida area president for Regions Financial Corp., is a longtime Jacksonville businesswoman and bank executive. She fills the vacancy created by the resignation of AUDREY MORAN, who became senior vice president of Baptist Health (one of the fund's grantees).
