Rose Community Foundation Awards $5.9 Million in First Half of 2012

Rose Community Foundation Awards $5.9 Million in First Half of 2012

The Denver-based Rose Community Foundation has announced that it awarded nearly $5.9 million in grants during the first six months of 2012.

The grants included more than $3 million through five program areas — aging, education, health, Jewish life, and opportunities and innovation — and an additional $2.8 million through the foundation's donor-advised funds. Since its creation in 1995, the foundation has awarded more than $183 million in grants.

Grant recipients included the Colorado Legacy Foundation, which was awarded $200,000 to increase the effectiveness of educators and expand learning opportunities for students in K-12 public schools across the state; the Colorado Agency for Jewish Education, which received $140,000 to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in nine Jewish early childhood education centers; the Jefferson Center for Mental Health, which was awarded $50,000 over two years to provide integrated medical, mental health, and substance abuse services; and the National Council on Aging, which received $23,000 in support of a pilot project that will provide public benefits application assistance to low-income older adults in four Denver grocery stores.

The foundation also awarded $150,000 to the Center for Teaching Quality to expand the New Millennium Initiative teacher network in Denver; $25,000 to the Second Wind Fund of Metro Denver to provide counseling services for teens in crisis; $18,500 to the Denver Community Kollel in support of Jewish learning classes for women led by women; and $4,000 to the Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists to assist minority youth pursuing careers in engineering and applied science.
