Columbus Foundation Announces $1.6 Million in Grants

The Columbus Foundation has announced sixty grants totaling $1.6 million to nonprofit organizations in central Ohio.

More than $1 million of the total was awarded to nonprofit arts groups in the region, with almost $890,000 going to organizations with annual budgets in excess of $350,000. They include the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, Friends of the [Franklin Park] Conservatory, and the Kings Art Complex. In addition, the foundation awarded $132,299 to twenty-nine small- and midsize arts nonprofits with annual budgets of less than $350,000 through its Community Arts Fund. Those grantees include the Columbus Dance Theatre, the Columbus Gay Men's Chorus, and the Ohio Poetry Association.

The foundation also awarded $320,000 Through its Fund for Financial Innovation to support mergers, money-saving programs, and revenue-boosting initiatives in the fields of conservation, health, and social services. Grant recipients include the AIDS Resource Center Ohio, which was awarded $90,000 to help it launch an HIV-specific pharmacy; the Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio, which received $50,000 to create a business plan and agreements to establish a formal relationship with one or more Federally Qualified Health Centers; and Central Ohio Youth for Christ, which was awarded $30,000 to hire and manage three social enterprises.

And the foundation awarded $290,000 to seven area nonprofits through its Fund for Targeted Needs, which supports programs for disadvantaged children and individuals with developmental disabilities. Grantees include KidsOhio.org, which was awarded $90,000 to provide education, business, civic, and policy leaders with timely and factual information needed to make informed decisions about the education of central Ohio's disadvantaged students.

"With our latest round of grant investments, we are lifting up organizations that strengthen and improve our community and make a difference in the lives of central Ohioans every day," said Columbus Foundation president and CEO Douglas F. Kridler. "The foundation and its donors are pleased to support the community's diverse arts and cultural organizations, and the nonprofits receiving funding through the Fund for Financial Innovation are strategically positioning their operations with creative, entrepreneurial thinking."
