Humana, KaBOOM! Partner to Build Playgrounds
Health insurance giant Humana and its foundation have announced a three-year, $6 million partnership with KaBOOM! to build thirty-nine playgrounds in communities across the country.
Building on a relationship that began in 2011 with the construction of playgrounds in nine communities, the partners will work to develop multigenerational play spaces that encourage all community members to engage in healthy activities. In addition to things like fitness stations, walking paths, and community gardens, the new playgrounds also will feature traditional equipment that allows people of all ages to play and gather for picnics, reunions, and other activities.
As part of the partnership, the Humana Foundation will support KaBOOM!'s Playful City initiative, which recognizes communities that make play a priority and use innovative approaches to get children active and healthy, as well as research to evaluate the importance and impact of play on an individual's well-being.
"At Humana, we believe in making fun things healthy and healthy things fun," said Humana CEO Michael B. McCallister. "Through this playground partnership with KaBOOM!, we're offering families an opportunity to enjoy physical activity and a stronger sense of belonging where they live, work, and play. We're committed to helping create lasting impact on our communities and to encourage adoption of healthy lifestyles among generations for years to come."
