The W.M. Keck Foundation has announced the appointment of JAMES R. UKROPINA as president. Ukropina, currently of counsel at the firm of O'Melveny & Myers LLP, previously served on the boards of Lockheed Martin, Pacific Life, and Stanford University. "The...foundation will greatly benefit from Jim's insight, given his considerable leadership experience and strong commitment to the lives of others," said ROBERT A. DAY, who will remain at the foundation as chairman and CEO.
The Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies has announced the appointment of TED CHEN as director of evaluation for its three grantmaking entities, the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, Anne Ray Charitable Trust, and Akaloa Resource Foundation. Chen, most recently director of learning and innovation at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, previously developed and managed grantmaking programs as well as research and assessment activities at a variety of nonprofit organizations and foundations.
The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace has announced the appointments of KATHERINE WILKENS as deputy director of its Middle East Program and FREDERIC WEHREY as a senior associate in that program. Wilkens joins Carnegie from AMIDEAST, an American nonprofit organization engaged in education, training, and capacity building in the Middle East and North Africa. Earlier in her career, she served at senior levels in the executive and legislative branches of the federal government and was staff director of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe and the Middle East. Wehrey comes from the RAND Corporation, where he researched political reform and security issues in the Arab Gulf states and Libya, as well as overall U.S. policy in the Middle East.
Unbound Philanthropy has announced the promotion of TED WANG, senior program officer for its United States Program, to director of that program; named WILL SOMERVILLE, a senior policy analyst for the Migration Policy Institute, as director of its United Kingdom Program; promoted CARMEN MARIA PÉREZ, office manager, to the position of operations and administration officer; and announced the appointments of CELESTE DADO as grants manager, ADEY FISSEHA as program officer, KATE BRICK as strategic opportunities analyst, BERNADETTE CRASTO, as executive assistant to the executive director, and JAKE LEE as program officer. Before joining the foundation in 2011, Wang was a public policy consultant and worked for fourteen years in the civil rights community. Somerville has focused on immigration policy and practice at the international and national levels throughout his career and has worked as a policy advisor on immigration issues in the British government. Pérez previously worked as assistant to a senior executive at an international sports marketing agency and as a personal representative for classical musicians. Dado, most recently senior grants manager at the Arcus Foundation, previously served as a grants administrator in the Ford Foundation's Peace and Social Justice Program. Fisseha previously worked at the National Immigration Law Center, most recently serving as a policy attorney and campaign coordinator. Lee previously worked as an attorney at Allen & Overy LLP of London and was manager of pro bono and community affairs for the firm. Brick most recently was an associate policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute and earlier worked as a program associate for the Mexico Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Crasto worked for more than a decade with United Nations Under-Secretary-General Olara Otunnu.
The ASPCA has announced the election of TIM F. WRAY as board chair. Wray, who has served on the organization's board of directors since 2009, is a partner at investment advisory firm Family Endowment Partners. Previously, he served as the interim CFO for Creditex Group Inc., worked at Questor Management Company, and was president and CEO of U.S. Plastics Inc.
In other news, the Tibet Fund has announced the appointment of JESSICA COX as development director. Cox has worked in fundraising for a number of organizations, including Mercy Corps, EDF, and the ACLU, and earlier in her career worked in media marketing and branding for Universal Studios Networks, Turner Broadcasting, and the BBC.
