California Community Foundation Awards $5.1 Million to Nonprofits in Los Angeles County
The California Community Foundation has announced thirty-eight grants totaling more than $5.1 million to nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles County.
Grants were awarded from discretionary charitable funds, which distribute grants three times a year to organizations working in the fields of education, health care, community development, human services, civic engagement, and the arts. In addition to the grant funds, organizations receive technical and management assistance, while nonprofits focused on addressing the needs of the region's most vulnerable residents also receive help with their advocacy efforts.
More than half the grants awarded in this round are from the Centinela Valley Medical and Community Funds, which were established in 1996 following the sale of the Centinela Hospital Medical Center. Overall, the new grants boost to more than $16.4 million the amount CCF has provided to local nonprofits in 2012.
Grant recipients in this funding round include Communities for Teaching Excellence ($100,000), the University Muslim Medical Association ($150,000), Mercy Housing ($100,000), and the Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership ($50,000).
"Thanks to the generosity of donors past and present, CCF continues to make grants at a relatively high and consistent level," said CCF president and CEO Antonia Hernandez. "We strongly encourage more foundations, corporations, and households to invest in the Los Angeles of today and tomorrow with us by helping stabilize and sustain community-based organizations."
