League of American Orchestras Receives $1.5 Million From Getty Foundation
The New York City-based League of American Orchestras has announced a three-year, $1.5 million grant from the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation in San Francisco to help orchestras deepen their involvement with their communities.
Through the Getty Education and Community Investment Grants Program, the league will re-grant funds to orchestras in support of their educational and community engagement work. Initial applications, which are being accepted through August 15, must include at least one partnership with a community-based or cultural organization to create programs that make a difference in any of the following categories: in-school programs; afterschool initiatives that align musical and social goals; health and wellness programs; life-long learning initiatives; or related efforts, including early childhood and criminal justice programs. The first round of grant recipients will be announced in November.
"For twenty-five years the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation has been an important source of support to the orchestra field," said League of American Orchestras president and CEO Jesse Rosen, "and this new project underscores their dedication to the long-term health of our nation's orchestras."
