Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research Announces 2012 Scholars
The Baltimore-based Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research has announced the 2012 recipients of its Kimmel Scholars program.
Through the program, fifteen of the most promising young cancer researchers in the United States will receive two-year, $200,000 grants to advance their research and further their careers. Those selected to receive an award must demonstrate great promise and innovation in their work, be in the early stages of their research career, and have not progressed far enough to have received major grants from the National Cancer Institute or other funding sources. This year's awards boost the total number of Kimmel Scholar recipients since the foundation's inception in 1997 to 217.
In addition to the $100 million he has awarded in support of the arts and the Jewish community, Sidney Kimmel, a Giving Pledge signatory and the founder and chairman of the Jones Group, Inc., has contributed more than $550 million to cancer centers and cancer research.
