Community Foundation Update (5/26/12) Colorado

The Denver Foundation has announced the creation of what it claims is the first African-American men's giving circle in the western United States. The group, Denver African American Philanthropists, will be housed at the foundation and has attracted more than a dozen contributors to date.

Florida

The Indian River Habitat for Humanity has announced a $30,000 grant from the Indian River Community Foundation in Vero Beach in support of its new Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. The grant will enable the organization to renovate and revitalize seven homes in and around the Gifford neighborhood.

Georgia

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has announced Christy Eckoff as its new director of gift planning.

Michigan

The Charlevoix County Community Foundation has announced nearly $34,600 in grants, including $7,000 from the Wisser-Saworski Endowment for the Arts. Recipients include the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, the Lake Charlevoix Association, the Manna Project, and public schools in Boyne and East Jordan.

Massachusetts

The Boston Children's Museum has announced a four-year, $365,000 grant from the Boston Foundation to help deepen its engagement with children and families in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan. To that end, the museum will collaborate with neighborhood organizations to provide dynamic family learning experiences in the three communities and at BCM.

Virginia

The Future Fund of the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation has awarded a pair of grants totaling more than $66,000 to two local organizations working to assist low-income residents, the Daily Progress reports. The Women's Initiative will receive $43,200 to provide mental health services to some two hundred and thirty low-income women, while the Charlottesville Free Clinic was awarded $23,000 to provide dental services to five hundred low-income, uninsured patients through its Mission of Mercy project.

Washington

The Seattle Foundation has named Jeanette Lodwig as its new general counsel. Lodwig previously worked with the foundation as outside counsel.
