Walmart Announces Winner of $1 Million Campaign to Fight Hunger
Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have announced $1 million in grants to Youngstown-Warren in Ohio to help fight hunger.
During the month of April, more than 396,000 votes were cast through the company's Facebook page for the two hundred communities in the U.S. hardest hit by unemployment, with more than 98,690 people voting for the two Northeast Ohio communities. The twenty runners-up in the competition will receive $50,000 each.
"We want to thank everyone who contributed to the fight against hunger this month, particularly the thousands who voted and shared the campaign with their friends on Facebook," said Sylvia Mathews Burwell, president of the Walmart Foundation. "We hope the increased awareness will positively impact foodbanks and hunger nonprofits across the nation as they continue to help the one in six Americans who at some point this year will be uncertain where their next meal will come from."
