Arkansas
The Little Rock-based Arkansas Community Foundation has awarded grants totaling $25,000 to fifteen organizations through its Giving Tree program, the Log Cabin Democrat reports. Recipients include Conway Cradle Care, Faulkner County Council on Aging, Arkansas Foodbank, and City of Hope Outreach.
California
The Fresno Regional Foundation has announced grants totaling $130,000 in support of arts organizations in the San Joaquin Valley. In keeping with the diversity of its community, the foundation supported a broad spectrum of activities, including theater, spoken word poetry, Mexican folklore dancing, Hmong language, and a full-immersion youth orchestra performance at the Saroyan Theatre.
Nebraska
The Omaha Foundation has announced that nine organizations will participate in its Nonprofit Capacity Building Initiative. The fifteen-month program aims to help nonprofits address their organizational and leadership capacity needs. Executive directors and board executive leadership will meet over the course of the year to focus on assessing the capacity of their organizations and how to improve it. Organizations also will be eligible for a $5,000 capacity-building grant to be used on organizational priority areas.
Oregon
Nike has announced that twenty-three area nonprofits and schools will receive a total of $250,000 through the Nike Employee Grant Fund of the Portland-based Oregon Community Foundation and its winter 2011/2012 program. Established in 2010, the fund supports local nonprofits and schools creating positive, sustainable social or environmental change. Recipients include the Bethel Neighborhood Youth Drop-In Center, Camp Rosenbaum, the Evergreen Curling Club, and Friends of Creston Children's Dental Clinic.
South Dakota
The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation has awarded a $49,500 grant to Helpline Center to launch a resource network to ease the challenges military personnel face when they return to civilian life, the Argus Leader reports. Helpline's Warrior and Family Support program was developed following "Coming Together: Expanding the Sea of Goodwill in Post-9/11 America," an SFACF-sponsored conference held this past January in Sioux Falls.
Texas
The Communities Foundation of Texas has announced that the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center has opened a new facility in Dallas. With support from the W.W. Caruth Jr. Foundation of CFT, DARCC created the county's first sexual assault forensic exam suites and sexual assault nurse examiner program.
Virginia
The Hampton Roads Community Foundation in Norfolk has announced grants totaling almost $750,000 from various unrestricted and field-of-interest funds, including $500,000 over five years to the Chrysler Museum of Art. The foundation also announced four grants totaling $93,000 through its Building Excellence program $150,000 to the Virginia Zoological Society for renovations.
