McCormick Foundation, Chicago Cubs Award $1 Million in Grants

McCormick Foundation, Chicago Cubs Award $1 Million in Grants

The Robert R. McCormick Foundation and the Chicago Cubs baseball team have announced grants totaling more than $1 million through the Cubs Care fund at the foundation.

The grants, which increase to over $17 million the total amount awarded through Cubs Care since 1991, will support nonprofit organizations working to address those in need in the Chicago area. Grant recipients include the Chicago Park District, which was awarded funding to enable more than thirteen thousand low-income and special needs youth play baseball this summer; the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, which received a grant in support of its work to provide access to adaptive sports and wheelchair softball for nearly fifteen hundred individuals with physical disabilities; and the Chicago Public Library Foundation, which was awarded a grant for its Family Summer Reading program, which aims to keep fifty thousand area children reading and learning over the summer months.

Announced at the annual Cubs Care grant luncheon, the grants represent the eighth consecutive year that more than $1 million has been awarded to area nonprofits through the fund. "Chicago is filled with passionate fans and caring neighbors," said McCormick Foundation president and CEO David Hiller. "We are honored to join the Chicago Cubs and [its owner] the Ricketts family to support these amazing community organizations that are working tirelessly to improve the lives of underserved youth, adults, and families across Chicagoland."
