Boston Foundation Awards $2.1 Million in Quarterly Grants

Boston Foundation Awards $2.1 Million in Quarterly Grants

The Boston Foundation has announced eleven grants totaling nearly $2.1 million to organizations serving the region.

First-quarter grants announced by the foundation include a four-year, $365,000 award to the Boston Children's Museum to expand its engagement with audiences in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan through the development of new partnerships and collaborations; a four-year, $350,000 award to the Theater Offensive to expand the number of initiatives that connect to neighborhood organizations and strengthen organizational structures that support its role in communities around Boston; and a four-year, $365,000 award to the Jose Mateo Ballet Theater to expand its service footprint to Roxbury and Dorchester and provide greater access to culturally relevant programming.

In support of quality educational opportunities for Boston children, the foundation awarded $183,000 to the Boston Plan for Excellence in support of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School; and $150,000 over three years to BOKS (Build Our Kids' Success) to help expand its activities to forty Boston elementary schools and conduct a multiyear evaluation in partnership with the National Institute of Out of School Time of the relationship between physical activity and behavior. In addition, the foundation awarded a three-year, $225,000 grant to Saint Francis House to expand its Moving Ahead Program, which has helped more than eleven hundred homeless individuals acquire the social and job skills they needed to secure employment.

"This latest round of discretionary grants touches a number of critical areas for Greater Boston, with an emphasis on education, job training, health, housing, and the expansion of programs that connect the city's residents with some of our best arts and cultural institutions," said TBF president and CEO Paul S. Grogan. "Our grants this quarter both complement and supplement the ongoing work being done in every quarter of the city with our support."
