California Community Foundation Announces Nearly $1.6 Million in Grants

California Community Foundation Announces Nearly $1.6 Million in Grants

The California Community Foundation has announced sixteen grants totaling more than $1.5 million to nonprofit organizations working to address a wide range of issues affecting Los Angeles County residents.

The two-year grants will be used, among other things, to improve transitional housing for foster youth, support affordable housing policy and advocacy, provide health care and coverage for uninsured residents, increase parental engagement in public education, and smooth immigrants' integration into public housing. Grants totaling $500,000 were awarded to four health centers and clinics — the American Indian, Samuel Dixon, and Westside Family health centers, and the Health Access Foundation — to improve access to high-quality, affordable, and culturally sensitive care for L.A. county residents. In addition, grants totaling $480,000 were awarded to five affordable housing and service-enriched programs — the California Housing Partnership Corporation, Housing California, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Little Tokyo Service Center, and West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation — for advocacy efforts at the state and local level.

The foundation also awarded grants totaling $300,000 to the Alliance for Children's Rights, California Youth Connection, Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services, and Pacific Clinics in support of efforts to protect the legal rights of and provide primary and mental health care for youth in the foster care system.
