Wisconsin Organizations Receive $3.1 Million to Prepare Disadvantaged Students for College

Wisconsin Organizations Receive $3.1 Million to Prepare Disadvantaged Students for College

The Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation in Madison, Wisconsin, has announced grants totaling $3.1 million to twenty-six organizations in the state working to boost the academic preparedness of disadvantaged students for college.

Part of Great Lakes' new community investment program, the grants will support programs that emphasize summer and remedial learning. Through its Wisconsin Education Growth Grants program, the organization will provide $2.3 million to seventeen programs working to help first- through twelfth-grade students and adult learners improve their acedemic preparedness for college. Nine additional programs will receive a total of more than $768,000 through the organization's Wisconsin Summer Learning Grants program to provide academic support to third- through twelfth-grade students and adult learners during the summer months.

"We are pleased to fund these twenty-six Wisconsin programs that show great promise in closing the education gap for the nearly forty-five hundred students they will serve," said Great Lakes president and CEO Richard D. George. "Great Lakes is committed to working with programs that share our commitment to measurable results that can provide a blueprint of what works to increase educational success for a more economically competitive Wisconsin."
