Elton John AIDS Foundation Awards $3.2 Million in Grants

The New York City-based Elton John AIDS Foundation has announced more than $3.2 million in grants to assist marginalized populations that are vulnerable to HIV infection.

In its third and final grantmaking round of 2011, the foundation awarded nineteen new and twenty-nine renewal grants to organizations working in the areas of HIV prevention, clinical and mental health care, rights advocacy, and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS in the Unites States, Haiti, and Latin America.

Grant recipients include Boston-based Partners In Health ($500,000) to continue providing medical care and social support to the rural poor in St. Marc, Haiti; AIDS Alabama ($25,000) for its work to secure funding for HIV/AIDS care and infrastructure, policy reform, and comprehensive sexual health education; and Compass, Inc. in Lake Worth, Florida ($35,000) for its Peer Navigator Program, which challenges stereotypes by promoting pride in the LGBT community and acting as educator, advocate, health service provider, and center for community organizing.
