Malaria No More Receives $1 Million From ExxonMobil Foundation

Malaria No More Receives $1 Million From ExxonMobil Foundation

Malaria No More has announced a $1 million grant from the ExxonMobil Foundation to expand its malaria eradication and education efforts in Cameroon and Chad.

The grant will support NightWatch, a communications campaign developed in collaboration with the ExxonMobil Foundation and Lalela Project that uses television, radio, and SMS text messages to reach millions with nightly reminders from top African celebrities and political figures to sleep under mosquito bed nets. Among other things, the funding will support efforts to recruit new celebrity messengers and expand the program's reach through mobile phones and other popular communications platforms. To date, the campaign has reached 4.6 million Cameroonians.

The grant also will be used to help ensure that rapid diagnostic tests are made available to more health facilities in Cameroon by focusing on supply chain improvements and communications to healthcare workers. In addition, Malaria No More will work with community-based organizations in Chad to provide ongoing education on the importance of malaria control.

"The support that ExxonMobil is providing to life-saving programs to protect children from malaria will be a lasting legacy of their commitment to the communities in which they work," said Malaria No More CEO David Bowen. "Malaria No More is committed to continuing its work with ExxonMobil and achieving our shared goal of ending deaths from malaria in Cameroon, Chad, and throughout Africa."
