Indian River Community Foundation Announces $4.5 Million in 2011 Grants

The Indian River Community Foundation in Vero Beach, Florida, has announced 2011 grants totaling more than $4.5 million to 173 nonprofit organizations.

Grants were awarded to organizations through the foundation's more than fifty donor-advised funds and its unrestricted fund, which supports time-sensitive community issues. The bulk of the grants, more than 90 percent, were awarded to organizations serving Indian River County.

During 2011, the foundation also launched two initiatives: the Alma Lee Loy Legacy Society, which will honor donors who are using the community foundation to carry out their charitable estate plans, and the Nonprofit Knowledge Center, an online database designed to connect donors to nonprofits serving Indian River County.

Since making its first grant in 2008, the foundation has awarded more than $7 million to local nonprofits and its assets have grown to $10.7 million. "While traditional nonprofit organizations steward their donors' contributions, we also focus on stewarding the results of those contributions," said IRCF board chair Becky Allen. "We are a neutral party in this effort, with a primary concern to help donors discover the most effective and personally meaningful way to achieve their philanthropic intentions."
