Community Foundation Update (1/28/12) California

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation in Mountain View has appointed John F. Hopkins, Catherine T. Molnar, and Steve Bennett to its board.

Indiana

The Legacy Foundation in Merrillville has named Lara Kalwinski as vice president. Kalwinski previously served as director of philanthropic sustainability at the PHJC Foundation.

Massachusetts

The Boston Foundation, Operation Warm, and the City of Boston have announced the launch of "New Coats for the New Year," an effort to distribute new winter coats to more than five thousand children between the ages of 3 and 12 who live in Boston Housing Authority developments. Coats were distributed last week to approximately one thousand children from six BHA developments from Maverick Landing in East Boston and from the Sportsmen's Tennis and Enrichment Center in Dorchester.

Ohio

The Columbus Foundation has announced that it is accepting applications for its 2012 summer fellowship program, which provides career-related work experience to selected college students interested in working in the nonprofit sector. The online application deadline is February 29.

Oklahoma

The Bartlesville Community Foundation has launched its 2012 grant cycle and will accept applications through February 13, the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise reports. Up to $25,000 will be awarded to organizations working in the areas of economic development and hunger alleviation.

Wisconsin

The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation has announced the beginning of the third and final phase of the Taking Root beautification project. Launched two years ago, the program has planted more than twenty-four hundred trees along city streets and in parks, added numerous flower beds to public spaces, and installed historical information signs at several city parks. This year, beautification efforts will focus on the city's entry points and will include the planting of larger tree species, installing landscape beds in areas dominated by concrete, and installing way-finding signs in nearly two dozen popular destinations.
