AmeriCares Receives $3.8 Million In-Kind Donation From AstraZeneca

AmeriCares, a global health and disaster relief organization based in Stamford, Connecticut, has announced a donation of prescription medicines valued at $3.8 million from global pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca.

For the third consecutive year, the company donated medicines in support of AmeriCares' U.S. Medical Assistance Program, which provides medical supplies and prescriptions to some four hundred facilities across the country serving the poor and uninsured. This year's contribution will benefit patients at one hundred free clinics and community health centers in twenty-eight states.

Recipients include the Way Free Medical Clinic in Green Cove Springs, Florida, which is working to assist individuals adversely affected by the Great Recession; the Traverse Health Clinic in Traverse City, Michigan, home to one of the highest unemployment rates in the country; and Sacred Heart Community Clinic in Round Rock, Texas, where 25 percent of state residents are uninsured — the highest rate in the country.

"The medicines donated by AstraZeneca are among the most frequently requested products by our partner clinics," said Morgan White, manager of AmeriCares' medical assistance program. "Thanks to our partnership with AstraZeneca, we are helping the most vulnerable Americans."
