Bechtel Foundation Pledges $25 Million to Caltech

The California Institute of Technology has announced a five-year, $25 million pledge from the San Francisco-based S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation to help improve campus life and expand and strengthen the school's commitment to K-12 educational programs as well as its engagement with students and teachers in the state.

In recognition of the gift, Caltech will name a new undergraduate residence hall in honor of Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr. A planning committee chaired by Anneila Sargent, vice president for student affairs, will be established to propose recommendations for the new facility.

"The S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation has been a dedicated and loyal partner to Caltech for many years, with an enduring commitment to investing in our students," said Caltech president Jean-Lou Chameau. "With this generous gift and the foundation's thoughtful support and vision, we will continue to enrich every student's experience — providing them with the space in which to foster lifelong friendships, develop extraordinary ideas, and grow as individuals and as a community of compassionate scholars and leaders."
