Boca Raton Regional Hospital Receives $25 Million Grant From Marcus Foundation

Boca Raton Regional Hospital Receives $25 Million Grant From Marcus Foundation

Boca Raton Regional Hospital has announced a $25 million grant from the Atlanta-based Marcus Foundation to create a neuroscience facility on the hospital's main campus.

The largest single gift in the hospital's history will support the creation of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute, a 52,000-square-foot facility equipped with a twenty-two bed neuro intensive care and step-down unit; two dedicated operating rooms, each with intraoperative MRI and CT scanners; a biplane angiography suite that will be used in the diagnosis and care of neurological conditions; and a staff of highly experienced clinicians. In addition, the institute will feature a robust clinical research component that collaborates closely with scientists at Florida Atlantic University.

According to recent data from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, one of the largest anticipated healthcare needs in a country with an aging population will be in the neurosciences, including the treatment of vascular diseases of the brain such as stroke and transient ischemic attack, Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders, and Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. Funding from the Marcus Foundation will be used to help transform the landscape of clinical capabilities available in the region.

"This is a watershed day for the advancement of the neurosciences in Florida and beyond," said Boca Raton Regional Hospital president and CEO Jerry Fedele. "The Marcus Foundation's magnificent commitment will allow the creation of an institute that will be sought out not only by those in need of the most sophisticated levels of care but also by those who have the ability, training, and experience to deliver that care. The benefits of this generosity will be felt by generations of patients and professionals alike."
