Florida
The Miami Foundation has named Louis-Albert H. Jolivert as board chair and Penny Shaffer as vice chair for 2012 and appointed Manny Diaz, Martin Kalb, Melissa Krinzman, Rafael (Rafo) Saldaņa, and Raul G. Valdes-Fauli to the board.
Georgia
The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has announced that it is accepting grant requests from nonprofits in Clayton County through the foundation's Clayton Fund. Letters of intent must be received by February 8.
Louisiana
The Greater New Orleans Foundation has announced the launch of its latest publication, Giving While Living. Written in the style of a children's book, it features Lafayette, the French Quarter Cat, and his "fat cat" lawyer friend Claude DeMieux, who helps explain the vehicles for giving back to the community. Giving While Living was written by Lauren Cecil, a children's book author and a staff member at GNOF, and illustrated by Marc Andresen, a New Orleans native who now lives in Atlanta.
Massachusetts
The Cape Cod Foundation in Yarmouthport has elected Eileen C. Miskell as vice chair of its board and appointed James T. Hoeck to succeed Miskell as treasurer.
Michigan
The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has announced that it will host the Kalamazoo Area Financial Aid Night on January 23. Presented by representatives of KCF's scholarship staff and the Michigan Student Financial Aid Association, the seminar aims to inform participants about the things they should consider when determining the cost of higher education, how to determine the types of financial aid that may be available to help cover those costs, and how to apply for financial aid.
New York
The Syracuse-based Central New York Community Foundation has awarded $20,000 to Madison Hall in Morrisville to help support renovations of the historic facility, the Madison County New York News reports. The grant will be used to rebuild a staircase and handrail and complete electrical, lighting, and ceiling work on the facility, which was built in 1817.
The Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley in Kingston has named Kevin J. Quilty as its vice president. He will be responsible for the asset development, marketing, and outreach efforts of the affiliated Community Foundation of Ulster County.
Ohio
The Dayton Foundation has announced that during the second half of 2011 it awarded more than $18.3 million in grants, including some $275,000 in discretionary grants in the areas of arts and culture, health, education, human services, philanthropy and other community-building endeavors in the Greater Dayton region. Recipients of the grants include Culture Works, the Dayton Playhouse, the Mary Scott Nursing Center, and the Mentoring Collaborative of Montgomery County.
