University of Kansas Announces $2.5 Million Gift to School of Education

The University of Kansas has announced a $2.5 million gift from an alumnus and his wife who wish to remain anonymous to establish a scholarship program in its School of Education.

The largest gift ever to the KU School of Education will be used to create a fund at the KU Endowment, the university's fundraising and fund-management organization, to benefit students majoring in education. The gift will be applied to the university's capital campaign, which will enter its public phase in April, and includes funding for specialized work in the acquisition of leadership skills connected to disciplines outlined in Peter Senge's book The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization.

"We thank the donors for this generous gift," said KU School of Education dean Rick Ginsberg. "The intent is to provide undergraduate students the opportunity to be supported in their quest to become leaders with organizational understanding and appreciation of the larger system in which their work is embedded. Once the scholarship program is in place, it will attract the best students for professional studies in education at KU."
