Jaguars Foundation Announces New Grants

Jaguars Foundation Announces New Grants

The Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation has announced that it awarded more than $1 million to Florida nonprofits during 2011, including ten awards totaling $293,000 to organizations working to assist economically and socially disadvantaged children and families in the northeast part of the state.

Grant recipients include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida, which was awarded $52,000 in support of its multi-service afterschool and summer programs in the Brentwood neighborhood of Jacksonville; Metro Kids Konnection, which received $46,000 for its Rising Stars afterschool and summer program for middle and high school students; the Youth Crisis Center, which was awarded $30,000 for its Touchstone Village transitional and independent living program; Fresh Ministries, which received $28,000 to help as many as fifty youth through its youth employment preparation and placement program at the Eastside Resource Center; and the Stage Aurora Theatrical Company, which was awarded $22,000 for its 100 Youth Voices performing arts program.

Since its inception in 1995, the foundation has awarded nearly $15 million to youth-serving organizations in the Jacksonville area. "Our dream of the Jaguars Foundation began even before Jacksonville was awarded the thirtieth NFL franchise in 1993," said foundation chair and CEO Delores Barr Weaver, "and we awarded our first grants before the team played its first game in 1995."
