Kellogg Foundation Awards $1 Million to Michigan League for Human Services

The Michigan League for Human Services has announced a three-year, $1 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in support of its budget and tax research activities and to establish a "prosperity coalition."

The largest grant ever to the Lansing-based organization will help create an infrastructure for coordinating policy and a consistent message in support of vulnerable families, children, and people of color in Michigan. Armed with data from the league's state fiscal analysis initiative and other sources, the coalition aims to influence state budget, tax, and policy decisions and promote greater civic engagement in the state around the issues of most importance to those groups.

"For nearly one hundred years, the league has been using research and data to improve the lives of those living in low-income families and those less fortunate among us," said the organization's president, Gilda Z. Jacobs. "While the work has been solid, it needs to be amplified to be more effective. This grant will allow us to step up our advocacy to new levels."
