Walmart Announces '12 Days of Giving' Campaign Winners

Walmart Announces '12 Days of Giving' Campaign Winners

Walmart has announced the first grant recipients chosen through its "12 Days of Giving" Facebook campaign.

On Monday, the first "day of giving" in the campaign, the giant retailer announced grants of $5,000 each to twenty-five hunger relief organizations chosen from a pool of more than 5,400 nominations submitted by Facebook users. Recipients include Sioux Falls-based Feeding South Dakota; Move for Hunger in Neptune, New Jersey; the Forklift in Columbia City, Indiana; the Generous Garden Project in Greenville, South Carolina; the Lion's Den Soup Kitchen in Catskill, New York; the Yuma Community Food Bank in Yuma, Arizona; and Minnie's Food Pantry in Plano, Texas.

Walmart will announce new grants on a daily basis to organizations working to address a variety of needs through December 23. In addition, the company and its foundation will award more than $19 million in discretionary grants during the holiday season.

"The response to our campaign was incredible — the organizations selected and the extraordinary people behind them are rising to the occasion, using their time and talents to make an impact in their local communities," said Walmart Foundation senior director Julie Gehrki. "The selected nonprofits reflect some of the most pressing issues facing our country today. We are honored to support them in their mission."

“Walmart's '12 Days of Giving' Facebook Campaign Spreads $1.5 Million in Holiday Cheer Across All 50 States.” Walmart Press Release 12/12/11.
