Gund Foundation Awards $7.5 Million in Fourth-Quarter Grants

The George Gund Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, has announced fourth-quarter grants totaling nearly $7.5 million to nonprofits working in the areas of education, the environment, human services, economic and community development, and the arts.

The grants include $2 million to the Foundation Fighting Blindness for research on retinal degenerative disease; $775,000 over two years to LAND Studio, a new organization formed by the merger of Cleveland Public Art and Parkworks; $1.5 million to the Cleveland Institute of Art in support of its new unified campus in the University Circle neighborhood; and $50,000 to the newly formed Higher Education Compact of Cleveland for its efforts to increase the number of Cleveland students who attend and complete college.

The foundation also awarded $260,000 to the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture to help cover the costs of its Artists in Residence program; a $100,000 grant to Universal Health Care Action Network of Ohio in support of its healthcare reform implementation efforts; a two-year, $150,000 grant to the Trust for Public Land in support of its land conservation efforts; and $60,000 to Policy Matters Ohio for ongoing public policy research work.
