Home Depot Foundation Awards $1.15 Million to Groups Serving Veterans in Los Angeles

Home Depot Foundation Awards $1.15 Million to Groups Serving Veterans in Los Angeles

As part of its Celebration of Service initiative, the Atlanta-based Home Depot Foundation has announced its first round of weekly grants in support of U.S. military veterans.

Each Monday between September 11 and Veterans Day (November 11), the foundation will announce approximately $1 million in grants to organizations serving veterans as part of the $9.1 million initiative. In addition to funding, each nonprofit will receive support from Team Depot, the company's associate-led volunteer group.

Grant recipients named in this round include the Local Initiatives Support Corporation of Los Angeles, which was awarded $500,000 to create more than three hundred units of affordable housing in Westside Residence Hall, a transitional housing facility for homeless veterans; New Directions, which received $400,000 to rehab and expand two foreclosed four-bedroom homes and two houses that provide transitional housing for women veterans, and repair and renovate a facility that provides more than a hundred and fifty beds of transitional housing for men; and People in Progress, which was awarded $250,000 to renovate two properties that provide housing for forty veterans.

"The Home Depot Foundation is committed to ensuring that every veteran has a safe place to call home, and we are impressed with the quality of work being done by New Directions, LISC LA, and People in Progress," said Home Depot Foundation president Kelly Caffarelli. "By funding much needed upgrades, repairs, and expansions to these nonprofits' facilities, we know that more veterans and their families will have a place to be together, to heal, and to move forward with their lives."
