Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Announces 2011 Graduate Arts Awards
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation in Lansdowne, Virginia, has announced the recipients of the 2011 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Arts Awards. A new initiative of the foundation, the program aims to assist high-achieving low-income students who are planning to pursue a graduate degree in the arts.
The inaugural class of ten artists, actors, and writers will each receive scholarships of up to $50,000 to study at an accredited graduate school in the United States or abroad for up to three years. Scholarships, which provide funding for tuition, room and board, required fees, and books, will vary based on several factors, including costs at the institution each recipient attends and other grants and scholarships a student receives.
This year's scholars are Sheyenne Brown, who will attend Columbia University; Don Edler (Hunter College); Brian Ezell (University of Delaware); David Hawkins (New York University); Joanna Hyde (University of Limerick, in Ireland); Ben Langston (Vermont College of Fine Arts); Christopher Olsen (school to be determined); Ingrid Pfau (Montana State University-Bozeman); Courtney Prokopas (University of Illinois at Chicago); and Rachel Semigran (University of London).
