Coca-Cola Foundation Awards $1 Million for China Study-Abroad Programs

Coca-Cola Foundation Awards $1 Million for China Study-Abroad Programs

The Coca-Cola Foundation has announced grants totaling $1 million to six colleges and universities to send more than a hundred and fifty young Americans to study abroad in China over the next four years.

The grants are designed to support the U.S. State Department's 100,000 Strong Initiative, which aims to enhance and strengthen ties between citizens of the United States and China in the areas of education, culture, sports, science, technology, and women's issues.

Grants of $200,000 were awarded to the Georgia Institute of Technology and Michigan State University, while Columbia University, Morehouse College, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Texas at Austin were awarded $150,000 each. Students selected for the program will participate in business internships, immersion-language programs, and other courses related to Chinese language, business, and culture.

"Through this grant, we hope to establish a stronger relationship, find common ground, and build a better understanding between our nations," said Coca-Cola Company chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent. "We want to promote stronger ties between our two countries and the importance of diversity among our student bodies and global communities."
