Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota has announced that its current president and CEO, PATRICK GERAGHTY, has accepted the position of CEO for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, effective September 2011. BCBSMN board chair PAMELA WHEELOCK has been named interim president and CEO of the organization and will leave her current position as vice president of advancing solutions at the Bush Foundation to serve in that role.
The Miami-based John L. and James S. Knight Foundation has announced the appointment of MICHAEL A. SILVER as director of Northwestern University's Knight News Innovation Laboratory. Silver is a former newspaper and television journalist with more than twenty-five years of experience in interactive information services, including service as executive director of the Newspaper Consortium and vice president at Tribune Media Services.
The Brooklyn-based Ms. Foundation for Women has announced the appointments of ALICIA LARA and HEATHER ARNET to its board. Lara, vice president for community investment at the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, previously worked for eight years at the California Endowment in a variety of positions, including vice president of program, director of responsive grantmaking, and senior program officer. Arnet, CEO of the Women and Girls Foundation of Southwest Pennsylvania, is also an op-ed contributor and on-air commentator for local and national media regarding women, girls, and the economy and has served on the boards of the Pittsburgh Public Schools, Pennsylvania Campaign Fund for Women, and Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania.
The National Center for Family Philanthropy in Washington, D.C., has announced the appointment of KAREN GREEN as vice president. Green, most recently president of the Healthcare Initiative Foundation, formerly worked at the Council on Foundations as managing director of family foundation services and as director of its governing boards program. Earlier in her career, Green served as associate director of the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation, directed refugee resettlement efforts in Singapore and Indonesia, and was in charge of business advisory services for the U.S.-China Business Council. She will replace Susan Price, who resigned at the end of June but continues to work for the center as a consultant.
In other news, the San Francisco-based College Access Foundation of California has announced the appointment of ANDREW PINO as communications officer and board liaison, a new position reporting directly to foundation president Julia I. Lopez. Pino, most recently director of marketing and communications for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, previously served as director of media relations at Georgetown University and also has held positions with Population Services International and the U.S. Committee for Refugees.
