Steve Gunderson to Leave Council on Foundations
The Council on Foundations in Arlington, Virginia, has announced the resignation of Steve Gunderson as its president and CEO, effective September 1.
In an open letter posted on the council's Web site, Gunderson, 60, hailed 2011 "as an incredible year of progress" and said he felt confident that, after six years on the job, he could step down and "bequeath an outstanding organization to my successor." He also noted that over the past two years, the organization had added a hundred members while maintaining strong retention rates.
Carol Larson, chair of the council's board of directors, thanked Gunderson for his "global vision" and leadership during perilous economic times and indicated that the board would name an interim president and CEO by September 1. Board members Judy Mohraz, president and CEO of the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, and Kevin Murphy, president and CEO of the Berks County Community Foundation, will co-chair a search committee tasked with finding Gunderson's successor.
"Giving two months notice allows the organization ample time to develop a transition plan," said Gunderson. "At the board's request, I've agreed to consult for the council as the committee searches for a new president and CEO."
