GE Foundation Awards $1.25 Million to Five Community Health Centers in Chicago
The Connecticut-based GE Foundation has announced grants totaling $1.25 million to five community healthcare centers in Chicago.
Awarded as part of the foundation's $50 million Developing Health initiative, the grants of $250,000 over two years will be used to boost access to primary care for uninsured and underserved populations across the Chicago metro area. Recipients include the Alivio Medical Center, Aunt Martha's Youth Service Center-Carpentersville Community Health Center, the Heartland International Health Center, the Howard Brown Health Center, and the Near North Health Service Corporation.
In addition to funding, each center will receive pro bono support from local GE employees — an aspect of the initiative designed to ensure that grantees also benefit from the company's core competencies, including process improvement and business management.
"[This] commitment by GE will help us make Chicago a safer and healthier city," said Illinois Senate president John Cullerton, "by promoting health, preventing disease, and ensuring more people in this city get access to health care."
