Give Back Hollywood Foundation Asks Celebrities to Take 'Hollywood Pledge'

Give Back Hollywood Foundation Asks Celebrities to Take 'Hollywood Pledge'

The Give Back Hollywood Foundation has announced the launch of the Hollywood Pledge, a new initiative to encourage celebrities to demonstrate their commitment to philanthropy.

Inspired by the Giving Pledge campaign launched by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates last year, the Hollywood Pledge asks celebrities to list the nonprofit organizations they support at a dedicated Web site and encourages their fans to volunteer with and/or make a donation to those charities. Celebrities who have already pledged include Laurence Fishburne, Richard Gere, Dwight Howard, Hugh Jackman, Jewel, and Denzel Washington; partners in the effort include the ABC Television Network, the Hollywood Reporter, and the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.

Guests at the official launch party this weekend will learn more about the initiative and be encouraged to support various nonprofits, including DoSomething.org, the Cancer Research Institute, Can-Do, the Screen Actors Guild Foundation, and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

"For more than seven years, the Give Back Hollywood Foundation has linked celebrities with meaningful causes and produced hundreds of charity events, especially those focused on children, health, and disaster relief," said Todd Krim, the organization's founder and president. "The Hollywood Pledge, inspired by the 'Giving Pledge,' is a natural evolution of this effort and intended to drive the adoption of charity causes by the leading figures in entertainment, which in turn can become an incredible motivator for fans worldwide to embrace the same commitment."
