Minneapolis Public Schools Receives $13 Million to Boost Student Achievement
Minneapolis Public Schools and AchieveMpls, one of the district's nonprofit partners, have announced grants totaling more than $13 million from four corporations to boost student achievement in grades K-12 over the next three years.
Grants from Target, Cargill, General Mills, and Medtronic will be used to advance the district's strategic priorities, which include early literacy; science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning; and leadership and human capital development for MPS principals and administrators. The funding also will support Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID), a national program that helps low-income students and students of color prepare for college, as well as AchieveMpls career and college centers in the district's high schools.
"These corporate citizens are providing a strong national model of how schools and the business community can collaborate to transform public education and provide our students with cutting-edge opportunities and learning tools," said superintendent Bernadeia Johnson. "Together, there is no limit to what we can achieve for our students."
