Home Depot Foundation Establishes Weather Impact Fund
The Atlanta-based Home Depot Foundation has announced the creation of a $1 million weather impact fund to aid in relief, recovery, and rebuilding efforts in communities across the country devastated by tornadoes and thunderstorms and to provide emergency assistance in the event of other violent storms this spring.
As a part of its commitment, the foundation awarded $250,000 to the American Red Cross for immediate relief efforts in the Southeast, where tornadoes and storms left nearly three hundred people dead and caused severe property damage last week. In addition, the foundation mobilized Team Depot, Home Depot's associate-led volunteer force, to help with local relief and recovery efforts.
The commitment comes on the heels of other donations to nonprofits offering spring storm relief in St. Louis, southern Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa. The foundation expects to award additional grants to stores, communities, and nonprofits, as needed.
"This spring has seen an extraordinary spate of storms and tornadoes that have devastated many parts of the country, and at this early stage of the season, it's likely to be one of the worst springs in history in terms of storm damage and destruction," said Home Depot CEO Frank Blake. "We are a part of these communities, and it is our responsibility to help — not only with the needs today, but as these communities start rebuilding."
