Georgetown University Awarded $1 Million Grant for Global Social Enterprise Initiative

Georgetown University Awarded $1 Million Grant for Global Social Enterprise Initiative

Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business has announced a $1 million grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation in support of a new initiative to advance the understanding and practice of social enterprise.

The Global Social Enterprise Initiative will engage corporate, nonprofit, government, and other stakeholders in preparing global leaders to make responsible management decisions that generate social as well as economic value.

GSEI will collaborate with organizations on campus, in the Washington, D.C., area, and around the world to develop best practices and advance research, teaching, outreach, and creative problem-solving in the areas of global health and well-being, responsible investing, economic growth and financial security, clean energy and the environment, and international development. In partnership with Bank of America, GSEI also will offer an annual symposium to generate ideas for public policy and business practices that boost public-private partnerships, employment, and global economic stability; the first symposium is planned for later this year.

"The Global Social Enterprise Initiative expands upon two key aspects of Georgetown University and the McDonough School of Business: a mission to educate ethical business leaders and a tradition of service to others," said Distinguished Professor of the Practice Bill Novelli, who will lead the initiative. "As social enterprise is becoming a more significant piece of core business strategies, it is essential to study best practices, develop new research, and collaborate across sectors to prepare leaders to implement large-scale, sustainable change."
