Mellon Foundation Awards $1 Million to Bryn Mawr College

Mellon Foundation Awards $1 Million to Bryn Mawr College

Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, has announced a three-year, $1 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for curricular planning and development.

The grant will help fund the college's ongoing efforts to develop an innovative, sustainable liberal arts curriculum for the twenty-first century. Elements of that curriculum include the Tri-Co Digital Humanities Consortium, 360 degrees course clusters, half-semester courses, and writing-intensive seminars. The college also will use the funding to target online and open courseware use, pursue academic programs with nearby Haverford and Swarthmore colleges, and look into developing partnerships with research universities. In addition, the grant will support the creation of an academic blueprint that details curricular changes designed to further enhance the student experience.

"Like every college and university, Bryn Mawr has to regularly re-examine its priorities, question elements of our model, and search for ways to continue to strengthen what we do well and enhance our advantages by pursuing new opportunities," said provost Kim Cassidy. "Thanks to the generosity of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, our faculty will be supported in strategic curricular planning, pedagogic innovation, faculty-student research collaboration, and experimentation with the latest classroom and learning technology."
