New York Community Trust Announces $4.7 Million in Grants

New York Community Trust Announces $4.7 Million in Grants

The New York Community Trust has announced grants totaling $4.7 million to thirty-seven nonprofit organizations working in a broad range of program areas, including healthy eating, nonprofit services, the arts, education, health, the environment, and special needs programs.

Recipients included the Food Bank for New York City, which was awarded $700,000 to help poor people get food stamps and other benefits; the Community Resource Exchange, which received $200,000 to provide management consulting to nonprofits in poor neighborhoods; and the Clean Water Fund, which was awarded $75,000 to organize and advocate for healthier drinking water across the United States.

The trust also awarded $40,000 to the Queens Botanical Garden for a marketing campaign to attract visitors; $40,000 to the Alliance for the Arts for a study on the economic impact of arts on the city; more than $900,000 to the Bridge Fund to prevent people from becoming homeless through cash grants and money-management help; and $100,000 to the Outreach Project to help formerly drug-addicted youth stay off drugs by improving outpatient programs in Brooklyn and Queens.

"In light of the severe state and city budget cuts, we are helping these groups do the most with what they've got," said Joyce Bove, NYCT senior vice president of grants and special projects. "But there's no doubt that city groups need charitable New Yorkers more than ever."
