Rockefeller Foundation Awards $895,000 to Digital Divide Data

Rockefeller Foundation Awards $895,000 to Digital Divide Data

The New York City-based Rockefeller Foundation has announced a grant of $895,000 to Digital Divide Data to establish a scalable impact sourcing operation in Kenya that creates jobs, develops talent, and serves local clients as a foundation for the impact sourcing industry.

Awarded through the foundation's Poverty Reduction through Information and Digital Employment (PRIDE) initiative. the grant will enable DDD to invest in an information technology services business that trains and employs three hundred youth from economically challenged neighborhoods in Nairobi. PRIDE is working in Africa to foster and scale up impact sourcing, a branch of the outsourcing industry, by supporting programs aimed at creating meaningful employment in the information technology industry for the poor.

"We're thrilled to support DDD in bringing the innovative business model of impact sourcing, which generates employment opportunities for the poorest and most vulnerable citizens, that they pioneered in Southeast Asia to East Africa," said James Nyoro, managing director for Africa at Rockefeller. "As part of the Rockefeller Foundation's Poverty Reduction through Information and Digital Employment work, this will build on the successful business process outsourcing model that exists in the developing world by fostering and scaling up the impact sourcing industry."
