Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust Awards $1.6 Million to Indiana Nonprofits

The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust has announced grants totaling more than $1.6 million to twenty-three Indiana nonprofits.

In the first of three annual funding rounds, the trust awarded grants to eleven organizations working to provide a range of educational outreach services, including grants totaling $390,000 to help boost graduation rates in Marion County and Indianapolis public schools; provide early childhood literacy services to 2,600 children at 250 Marion County daycare facilities; and increase bullying awareness programs to 4,000 middle and high school students. In addition, the trust awarded grants totaling $203,000 to expand programs and services for foster care children and youth and the families serving them; $80,000 to provide new mother educational programming to five hundred women in hospital maternity wards; and $75,000 for pregnancy prevention programs and HIV/AIDS education outreach.

A total of $210,000 in grants was awarded to organizations working to assist individuals with disabilities by providing home modifications for the elderly; providing services for eighty blind and visually impaired individuals; and enhancing independent living programming for individuals with developmental disabilities. Recipients included Bosma Enterprises and CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions.

"This first round of grants for 2011 features a diverse group of organizations, six of which are first-time grant recipients," said NMPCT president and CEO Harriet M. Ivey. "The trust is funding programs that are filling critical needs for our citizens and community today while supporting programs that focus on longer-range issues that must be addressed today."
