New York Life Foundation Announces $1 Million to Boys & Girls Clubs of America
The New York Life Foundation has announced a four-year, $1 million grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for an initiative designed to promote greater understanding and awareness of childhood bereavement.
Be There: A National Grief and Bereavement Initiative will focus on creating a best practices bereavement guide to serve as a model in its first year and will seek to pilot test the model at ten BGCA clubs in 2012, with additional clubs to be added in the final two years of the initiative. During the pilot test period, BGCA will host workshops, conferences, online training, and a Web community, as well as provide technical assistance and grief resources to each club.
"The New York Life Foundation is pleased to support Boys & Girls Clubs because they are uniquely positioned to make an enormous impact in the lives of youth in communities across the country," said New York Life Foundation president Chris Park. "While caring adults can make all the difference in helping grieving children to have a healthy response to loss, adults who work with the children in the clubs often have no formal training regarding how kids grieve and what can and should be done to help them through their grief. The Be There initiative is designed to change that."
