Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta Receives $1 Million From Coca-Cola Foundation

Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta Receives $1 Million From Coca-Cola Foundation

The Coca-Cola Foundation has announced a $1 million grant to the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta to support Mayor Kasim Reed's Centers of Hope initiative, an effort to re-open the city's closed recreation centers and provide educational tutoring programs to area youth.

Awarded as part of the Atlanta-based company's one hundred and twenty-fifth anniversary, the grant will provide funding for two centers scheduled to re-open this spring and will help support tutoring, character building, and physical fitness activities for about a thousand local youth through a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.

The news follows on the heels of an announcement by CFGA that it received $138 million in gifts in 2010 — the most in its sixty-year history — and that it awarded $99 million in grants, the third highest total in its history. More than 87 percent of the 2010 grants were awarded through donor-advised funds.

"It's clear that philanthropy is alive and well in our Atlanta region," said CFGA president Alicia Philipp, "and we're grateful to the individual and family philanthropists who work with us to get better connected to the issues and organizations making a difference."
